Finding swing trades

The exact screening conditions for swing trades, and why the scanner is always followed by eyes on the chart.

The whole course

Disclosure, not advice

The strategies, scores and signals here are produced by an algorithmic system and based on technical data only. They are not investment advice or a substitute for professional advice, we are not investment advisors. Trading involves risk, and every decision and action is solely the user's responsibility.

Finding swing trades

A scanner doesn't find trades. It shrinks the world from thousands of names to thirty, and from those you pick five by eye. Buying straight off a scanner means buying every case that looks right in numbers and rotten on the chart.

The screening conditions

Daily dollar turnover above twenty million. Price above ten. The stock above both its 50- and 200-day moving averages. Within 15% of the 52-week high. Positive relative strength versus the index over three and six months. Average daily range between 2% and 5%. And volume in the most recent pullback below average.

The last and most neglected condition: no quarterly report inside the planned holding window. Holding through earnings is a bet on an outcome you can't know, and it has nothing to do with the pattern you identified. If you want to trade earnings, that's a separate, deliberate decision — at half size.

The manual pass

Go through the thirty charts one by one asking three questions of each: is the trend obvious, or am I talking myself into it? Is there a level to anchor a sensible stop? And does a reasonable target give at least twice the risk? Any "yes, but" — skip it.

The output is four to six names on a watchlist, and not all of them will trigger. A good swing trader typically takes two to five trades a week, not twenty.

Terms from this lesson

סורק מניותScreener
A quantitative filter that reduces the market to a list you can eyeball.
שיא 52 שבועות52-Week High
The highest price of the past year. Proximity to it signals strength, not danger.
רשימת מעקבWatchlist
The names that survived the screen and the manual pass, waiting for a trigger.

Practical checklist

  • The stock passed every quantitative condition
  • I looked at the chart, not only the numbers
  • No earnings report inside the planned holding window
  • There's a clear stop level and a target worth twice the risk
